Oldies?!

I want to buy a back-up torch incase I smash mine whilst out frogging but dunno where to get it from. The one I have now ainÆt nothinÆ special to look at, donÆt think it cost much, (itÆs probably from the 60s and was Bad DadÆs), it runs off 2 big cylindrical batteries which last all frogging season and itÆs perfect for my frogging as it shines light a long distance away and pin points it to one spot which is exactly what I need so I want something the same.

Uncle Derek bought me one with AA batteries for about a fiver from Aldi once but that was sh*t. OK for in the house in a power cut but useless for going out frogging cos it didnÆt light up driveways in the distance. I need it to light stuff about 10-15 meters away. I donÆt wanna spend heaps on a super duper one but yet I doubt thereÆs any point me getting one from the pound shop or B&M cos I figured theyÆd not be what IÆm after. Where can I get what I want from? I donÆt wanna buy something and try it, find out it isnÆt good enough for what I want and try and get a refund. Also I donÆt shop online so which shops/stores would I get it from? Anyone got advice please?

Thanks for trying but it donÆt help, I donÆt wanna go diving or caving. WhatÆs the difference between LED versions and incandescent bulbs anyway? DonÆt understand what that means, I'm only a kid. I ainÆt shopping online so what shops sell them? Argos? What about Curries and Comet? Where do you get torches from cos I donÆt know? Will Morrisons have owt decent in their DIY isle? Where can I get what I want from? I want a back-up torch damn it. Just something fairly cheap like ú10 or ú15, one that donÆt go through batteries like nobodies business (I was thinking one that runs off two big cylindrical batteries would be better like my other old one which which works fine  ), and one where in 10 or 20 years time I can go and get a replacement bulb without being told they no longer make them.

Thanks Andy. I wouldnÆt dare wear a head torch cos IÆd look a real tw*t. Cars go past all the time and people walk past me and I get funny looks and thereÆs teenagers that go past. Thankfully where I go frogging the teenagers are far less chavy than in other parts of Keighley so I donÆt tend to get the verbal abuse and humiliation that I get on my walk up to work past the horrible school kids but all the same IÆd like to not look a total fool in case I get picked on whilst out frogging. If I wore a head torch IÆd feel stupid and be lit up and stand out and feel ashamed. A hand held torch is better and at the mo I carry round it round in my pocket usually.

Bad Dad phoned on Friday and said heÆs dug out two torches he donÆt use that I can have, one takes 4 AA batteries which might be good as I can use my rechargeable batteries that I already have, and the other donÆt have a battery in it and he told me to look at battery prices whilst at Skipton market on Saturday. It takes big batteries, about 10cm x 6cm x 5cm ish, I found them for ú2 but then I went into the Yorkshire Trading Company which is a bargain store in Skipton and they did big torches for ú5 with the same kind of battery included. Kind of big shaped like this one but look far more basic and cheap.

ThatÆs the shape Bad DadÆs gonna give me, he sayÆs itÆll work for what I want. I probably should have bought a battery whilst I was there, should have them somewhere in my town too though I suppose. But wonÆt get the torches for a while anyway cos Bad Dad lives a million miles away so thereÆs no hurry for a battery.

PS. AinÆt ArgosÆ torches a bit pricey?   Smaller torches in the Yorkshire Trading Company were ú2 or ú3, doubt there's much difference in light quality.
